Location: Capitol Hill, Seattle Timeline: In progress |
The adaptive reuse of a 1920s automotive garage into an urban hub housing retail and live/work spaces while serving as a sustainable-building laboratory. This project has a strong ecological vision, including the achievement of a zero environmental footprint while preserving the historic character of the existing building. Other goals include creating a dynamic environment for continuous evaluation and development of green technologies and providing public outreach by showcasing all sustainable aspects to the public. GBA envisions this building to be a living laboratory for clean technologies. Information will be gathered and learned by GBA through daily use and the monitoring of installed systems. Based on availability, budget, and grants/incentives, the Melrose Square systems will continue to be upgraded, with the ultimate goal being to achieve a zero footprint for carbon emission and use of non-renewable resources for the both the building and for some of the occupants’ transportation needs. |
